A murder trial continued July 12 with witnesses from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) testifying to the case’s investigation.
Steven Gibson, 40, is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and firearm possession with a felony conviction in connection to an incident that occurred on May 6, 2023, at 2100 block of Hollins Avenue.
The first witness, a BPD detective who recovered surveillance footage from the crime scene, testified that he saw Gibson walking along Hollins Avenue.
During cross-examination,defense attorney Amanda Savage established that the detective never asked to examine other footage, such as text messages, other videos or calls.
The second witness, a BPD officer who responded to the scene, said he looked at three different cameras within the area from May 8, 2023, two days after the shooting, which showed Gibson walking in the area.
A crime scene technician with the BPD said she recovered clothes belonging to the victim from the crime scene.
When she arrived, she said she only spoke to members of law enforcement who were at the scene.
The prosecutor showed her photographs from the scene, explaining, in detail, the evidence captured, including drugs, a pair of jeans, a shoe, a sock, a pair of pants, and a speck of blood that belonged to the victim.
There was also a fourth witness who almost caused a mistrial due to talking about video footage from a private residence camera system that was not admitted into court.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul E. Alpert told the jury to disregard the comments the witness made.
Testimony is expected to continue on July 15.
