A Zoom hearing for a convicted non-fatal shooting defendant was postponed on Jan. 19 and rescheduled for another date in March.
Thomas Alston III, 37, was scheduled to appear in Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Yvette Bryant on Thursday; however the proceeding was canceled for reasons unknown to Baltimore Witness.
Alston is currently scheduled for another Zoom hearing on March 16.
According to an unreported opinion from the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland, Alston was accused of a non-fatal shooting on May 21, 2019, for which he was later found guilty of assault, reckless endangerment, and three weapons charges. Alston was sentenced to 20 years for first-degree assault; a consecutive ten years for second-degree assault; a consecutive 15 years for firearm use in a felony violent crime; and a concurrent one year for discharging firearms.
The Maryland Judiciary website reports that Alston requested a change of sentence in October 2022 and is currently represented by defense attorney Megan Lewis.
The aforementioned opinion states that the female victim in the case had picked up Chinese food on May 21, 2019, and was walking home while on the phone with her husband. The suspect, later identified as Alston, allegedly followed the victim from the restaurant to her apartment and repeatedly asked to talk to her, gesturing towards his pants. The victim’s husband confronted the defendant, who fired two gunshots.
No one was injured in the shooting.
