A non-fatal shooting defendant rejected a plea of 25 years on Oct. 7 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
The defendant, 28, is charged with first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, having a handgun in a vehicle, and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on June 7.
The defendant and his defense attorney, Dominic Iamele, rejected a plea of 25 years suspending all but 5 years with three years of supervised probation for first-degree assault and five years without the possibility of parole for use of a firearm during a felony violent crime. The plea would have required the defendant to stay away from the victim and register as a gun offender.
Iamele informed Judge Phinn that he recently received video footage two days prior to the hearing and hadn’t had the chance to review it with his client. Iamele also noted the defendant’s mother came up from Louisiana for what she thought was her son’s trial.
The defendant’s trial is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2023. It is expected to last three days with Judge Cynthia H. Jones presiding.
