The defendant in a non-fatal shooting trial, 30-year-old Marlon Veney, accepted a plea deal on March 13 in the courtroom of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Philip S. Jackson.

Veney, represented by Lewyn Garrett, accepted a plea deal of four years for possession of a rifle or shotgun with a felony conviction. He will receive credit for the 26 months he has served already.

He was charged with possession of a rifle or shotgun with a felony conviction, reckless endangerment, discharging firearms, illegal possession of ammunition, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and two traffic violations.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, on Jan. 15, 2022, Baltimore Police Department officers  responded to a 911 call at the intersection of Waterview Avenue and Annapolis Road, reporting a shooting following a car crash.

Veney, driving his mother’s car, was allegedly at fault for the accident and proceeded to shoot at oncoming traffic after striking the other car.

Veney’s mother told police she did not give her son permission to use her car. He was declared competent to stand trial on Oct. 4, 2023.
