Jamal Smothers, 19, requested a trial postponement on Jan. 27 due to an unspecified conflict of interest. The move came during a pre-trial hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.

In an Oct. 2024 incident, Smothers is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a regulated firearm and possession of a firearm as a minor.

Judge Copeland has yet to set a new date based on the 180 day required deadline from first appearance in court to trial.
