On Oct. 5, a man facing 79 charges rejected a plea offer before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn

Arlyn Almonte is accused in multiple crimes including seven counts of attempted first- and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime and conspiracy to commit firearm use in a felony violent crime.

Additionally, Almonte faces charges for having a handgun on his person, conspiracy to wear or carry a handgun on his person, having a handgun in his vehicle, having a handgun in a vehicle on a public road, discharging a firearm within Baltimore City and carrying a handgun within 10 yards of the public in connection to a May 21 incident.

Almonte, 28, and his attorney, Hunter Pruette, rejected a plea offer to four of the charges. For one count of attempted first-degree murder, the sentence would have been 50 years, suspending all but 20 years, with five years of supervised probation.

For first-degree assault, the prosecutor offered a concurrent 20-year sentence. For firearm use in a felony violent crime, a concurrent 10 years, the first five years without parole. And finally, for having a handgun on his person, the offer was a concurrent three years. Almonte would also have been required to stay away and have no contact with the victim and register as a gun offender.

Judge Phinn scheduled Almonte’s three-day trial to begin on Jan. 29, 2024, before Judge Dana M. Middleton
