A Baltimore resident was deemed incompetent to stand trial during reception court on Sept. 20 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Shakira Shaw, 24, is charged in connection to an incident on Oct. 6, 2020, for first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in death.
Judge Phinn listened as the prosecutor said there will not be a plea offer as the defendant is not currently mentally stable. The prosecutor will present a plea offer once the defendant resolves her mental health court issue.
According to CBS Baltimore, on Oct. 6, Shaw called authorities and said she suffocated her son back in December 2019. Shaw’s 1-year-old infant, Kaleb, was living with her on the 400 block of Aisquith Street.
The Baltimore City Fire Department took her son to Johns Hopkins Hospital on Dec. 28, 2019, at approximately 7:30 p.m. He died shortly after arriving.
Shaw’s case is scheduled for mental health court on Sept. 22.
