Mental Observation Postponed Related to COVID

Baltimore City Circuit Court  Judge Gale E. Rasin postponed 63-year-old defendant Reginald Benbow’s mental health observation hearing on Feb. 19, ostensibly for a COVID-related issue.

Baltimore Witness contacted the Baltimore City Correctional Center, the Baltimore City Health Department and the mayor’s office but no one responded to questions about a possible spike in COVID cases among those currently in detention.

Meanwhile, Benbow is charged with four counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction, one count each of illegal possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm in the city after allegedly shooting his friend in the knee.

Benbow, who has appeared in mental health court multiple times and claims to be a member of the Jackson Five, had his last appearance waived after Judge Rasin found him a danger to himself and others.

Judge Rasin postponed Benbow’s hearing to March 5.
