Defendant Larry Jackson was found guilty of attempted murder on July 11 in connection to a shooting that arose from what the prosecution described as “a petty argument.”
Jackson was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, and discharging a firearm in the city before Baltimore City Circuit Judge Cynthia Jones.
His sentencing is currently scheduled for Aug. 8.
During closing arguments on July 10, bullet casings clinked in the courtroom as jurors passed the evidence to one another, while the prosecutor detailed the events that unfolded nearly a year earlier on July 23, 2022. The victim was walking home from work on the 1800 block of McCulloh Street when he saw someone pull up on a bicycle and begin firing a gun at him.
The 33-year-old defendant fired the gun six times, the prosecutor said, but the victim shielded himself from the gunfire behind a nearby vehicle.
This shooting stemmed from an argument between Jackson and the victim that occurred the day before when the victim went to buy marijuana from the defendant, telling Jackson, “You mad because you broke.”
Defense attorney James Sweeting III implored with the jury that there was an absence of evidence and only the victim’s word.
