An argument outside a Downtown Baltimore Marathon gas station ended with a man injured in the crossfire allegedly between defendant Kenyon Maurice Cypress Jr. and an unknown man last August.
On June 29, Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled Cypress’ jury trial before Judge Barry G. Williams on Aug. 25 when he is expected to face attempted first- and second-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment and two weapons charges.
Defense attorney Adam Frank currently represents the 22-year-old defendant.
According to court documents, the victim told Baltimore Police that he was inside the gas station at 427 W. Mulberry Street around 1 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2025, and saw two men arguing. One of the men, who was wearing all black clothing, pulled out a gun and shot at the other man — a stray bullet striking the victim’s right foot.
The victim was driven to the University of Maryland Medical Center for treatment.
The incident was captured on city surveillance footage, court documents note, allegedly showing Cypress fire several shots at the gas station from outside as he was leaving. Cypress is then seen running up Paca Street with an unknown woman.
In addition to finding five 9mm shell casings at the crime scene, police identified Cypress as the alleged shooter on Jan. 12, which was confirmed by a witness two days later. The State’s Attorney’s Office approved the department’s application of charges against the defendant on Jan. 21.
