Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Drive-Thru Armed Robbery

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael A. DiPietro sentenced Angelo Jerome Riley Jr, 27, to 30 years of imprisonment on May 26.

Riley was sentenced on charges of first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having and discharging a handgun, and armed robbery. Jurors convicted Riley on Feb. 26, following a jury trial before Judge DiPietro.

Charging documents state that at approximately 3 a.m. on Jan. 31,2025, Baltimore Police officers responded to a McDonald’s restaurant located on the 6000 block of Moravia Road to investigate a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers were told by a female employee that she had been working the drive-thru when a man approached the window, pointed a handgun at her and demanded she open the cash register.

The suspect was alleged to have fired one round at the restaurant floor, which ricocheted and struck the victim’s foot. Afterwards, he grabbed the cash register and fled the scene. Video surveillance captured the suspect wearing a blue hoodie with a white logo, ripped light-colored jeans and black tennis shoes.

Police tracked the stolen register using a built-in GPS device and recovered it on the 2700 block of Greenmount Avenue. Nearby surveillance cameras reportedly captured the suspect retrieving a large, reflective box resembling the register from the floor of a black vehicle. A witness was shown the footage and identified Riley as the suspect, leading to his arrest.

Judge DiPietro ruled Riley, who was represented by John Deros, would serve the first five years of his sentence without parole.
