Homicide defendant Anthony Clark Jr. pleaded guilty to murder and a weapons charge on Feb. 21 rather than proceed with a retrial after his mistrial last summer.
Clark and his defense attorney, Michael Cooper, agreed to a plea of second-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John Howard on Tuesday, with the defendant’s sentencing scheduled for May 18.
According to the prosecution, the 32-year-old defendant shot and killed 13-year-old DiAndre Barnes and injured another man around 1:30 a.m. on the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on June 11, 2016. An unreported opinion from the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland states that Barnes was shot in the head and upper torso.
Clark’s initial conviction was later overturned and remanded for a new trial that occurred in July 2022, resulting in a mistrial a few days later.
