Man Continues to Proclaim Innocence Despite Being Locked up for 2 Years

A 41-year-old Baltimore man accused of homicide was denied bail due to prior convictions and the seriousness of allegations on Feb. 15 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong.

Dominic Boyd is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime, and three counts of possession of a firearm with a felony conviction for allegedly shooting David Nicholson on the 500 block of N Bouldin Street on June 20, 2020.

During a bail hearing on Tuesday, Judge Hong listened as the prosecutor informed the court that Boyd was a flight risk and a threat to the community.

But, Boyd’s defense attorney, Staci Pipkin, informed the court that the defendant’s last conviction was over 7 years ago, and the last time he failed to appear in court was over 20 years ago.

Judge Cynthia Jones also denied bail in May 2021.

According to court documents, on June 6, 2020 officers were called to the 500 block of North Bouldin Street at approximately 2:47 a.m. for reports of shots being fired. They found David Nickelson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound on the 3300 block of Jefferson Street.

Nickelson was pronounced dead 32 minutes later, documents state.

Boyd’s trial is scheduled for Aug. 8.
