A Baltimore man accused of fatally shooting 17-year-old D’Asia Garrison and injuring a 31-year-old man on New Year’s Day is set to begin trial early next year, just days after the one-year anniversary of the incident.
During Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn’s reception court on Oct. 6, Andre Bailey’s three-day trial was scheduled to begin on Jan. 4, 2024, before Judge Jeffrey M. Geller.
The prosecutor informed Judge Phinn she did not currently have a plea offer for the homicide defendant, but she needed to verify recently-received information in the case before doing so.
Defense attorney Roland Harris represented the 27-year-old defendant during Friday’s proceedings.
According to court documents, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers were called to the 700 block of N. Glover Street around 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 1 for a reported shooting. Police found Garrison with multiple gunshot wounds to her torso and she was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital less than 30 minutes later.
Another man reportedly walked into the same hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper right torso a short time later.
Bailey was identified by a witness through a photo array completed by BPD on Jan. 5. He is currently charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person and firearm possession with a felony conviction.
