Severn resident Harrison Barnes will not face any further time in prison for a fatal shooting last November after a jury found him not guilty of shooting his friend’s attacker.
The jury returned with their verdict on Sept. 23, the day after they began deliberations. Barnes, who defense attorney Arthur McGreevy represented, was found not guilty of first and second-degree murder, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, and having a handgun on his person and in a vehicle.
During the trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Jones, jurors were told that the defendant drove to a female friend’s home on Nov. 6, 2021, when he learned that a 60-year-old man was physically abusing her. The altercation ended once the man struck the woman, and Barnes shot him in the neck.
The woman had previously called Barnes three times on the day of the shooting, with a fourth call placed to police.
