Suspect Accepts 18-Month Plea Deal for Non-Fatal Shooting

A 40-year-old Baltimore man will serve 18 months in prison after accepting a plea offer for a non-fatal shooting on June 25 in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Jermaine Jackson was accused of 11 charges: two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, two counts of rifle or shotgun possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of ammunition, reckless endangerment and firing and discharging a firearm in connection.

Jackson accepted a 15-year plea deal suspending all but one year, five years of probation, for possession of a rifle or shotgun with a felony conviction and a consecutive six months for reckless endangerment. He will also be barred from owning a firearm in the future.

Before Judge Lynn S. Mays gave Jackson his sentence, Jackson’s defense attorney Staci Pipkin brought up Jackson’s family and friends to the witness stand in the hopes of Jackson getting a lighter sentence.

“I know this will be the last time he commits a felony,” Jackson’s mother said.

Jackson said before he was sentenced that he doesn’t want to be incarcerated for very long so that he can take care of his mother and son.

Judge Mays sentenced Jackson according to the agreed-upon terms of his plea.
