The jury trial for 27-year-old Timothy Shearn Jr. was postponed July 14 due to a personal issue involving defense attorney Brandon Mead. It was rescheduled for the following day.
Shearn is charged with first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and related firearm offenses in connection to the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Deonyaye Johnson on the corner of N. Arlington Avenue and Riggs Avenue.
According to charging documents, Shearn and his former-girlfriend got into a dispute over visitation of their child, during which Shearn allegedly pulled a gun from his backpack. The ex-girlfriend fled the scene and later returned that night to meet Johnson, who was her boyfriend at the time.
Charging documents allege that while Johnson and Shearn were speaking, Shearn briefly went inside a nearby residence before returning, shooting Johnson, and fleeing the scene. A witness identified Shearn as the shooter.
Opening statements are scheduled to begin July 15 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Hope Tipton.
