Jury Selection Begins for Northwest Baltimore Gas Station Shooting

Jury selection in the case of 46-year-old Travis Maynor began on June 9 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yolanda A. Tanner.

Maynor, represented by defense Andre Mahasa, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery, and firearm use in a felony violent crime

According to court documents, shortly after 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2024, police responded to a Carroll Motor Fuels gas station on the 4100 block of Patterson Avenue and found a 28-year-old male victim suffering from several gunshot wounds to his face, chest, right thigh and upper back.

Surveillance footage showed two masked suspects exiting a black Acura TL sedan with temporary Virginia tags opening fire on the victim and then fleeing the scene.

Investigators linked Maynor to the shooting using surveillance footage, ballistic and cellphone records.

On Tuesday, Maynor moved to postpone the case before jury selection began, claiming a private attorney could better represent him. Judge Tanner denied the motion to postpone, since Maynor had not yet dismissed Mahasa. She also stressed that if Maynor dismisses Mahasa and cannot afford private legal services, he runs the risk of having to represent himself at trial.

Opening arguments will get underway once the jury panel is seated.
