A 24-year-old Baltimore man was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder on Sept. 20 after shooting his ex-girlfriend during an argument in 2019.
Following a two-day trial, the jury returned their verdict, finding Carroll Carter guilty of reckless endangerment and firearm use in a felony violent crime. The defendant was found not guilty of attempted first-degree murder.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Schiffer presided over the trial.
Carter was accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend on the 3900 block of West North Avenue after the two agreed to talk. However, the conversation escalated on Jan. 9, 2019.
Jurors heard from the victim during the trial as she testified that Carter held a gun to her head. She then pushed the gun away; however, Carter reloaded and then shot her in the neck, leaving her with nerve damage in her right hand and right arm as well as a paralyzed right vocal cord.
