A jury found 60-year-old Kenneth Craig guilty of second-degree murder on Oct. 2 after his girlfriend was found brutally stabbed to death in Baltimore City’s Brooklyn neighborhood in 2023.

Craig stood trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Hope Tipton alongside his defense attorney, Natalie Finegar. On Oct. 2, the defendant was found guilty of second-degree murder in connection to 36-year-old Shakita Thomas‘ death.

During closing arguments on Sept. 27, the prosecution said this case was about “choices and consequences,” citing Craig’s actions on April 18, 2023, on the 500 block of East Jeffrey Street. Thomas’ body was found in the street with 43 stab wounds, a forensic scientist testified at trial, including a stab wound to her head.

Craig stabbed the victim “over and over and over again until she had nothing left,” the prosecutor said.

Two 911 calls provided Baltimore Police with a description of the suspect and the crime scene where a knife was found. However, the prosecutor said the knife appeared clean with no signs of blood. Another knife was reportedly sticking out of the victim’s head when she was taken to a nearby hospital.

At trial, Finegar noted discrepancies in the prosecution’s evidence. She also argued that the knife found at the scene should have been tested for possible DNA as blood can be present but not visible to the naked eye.

Craig is expected to be sentenced on Jan. 21, 2025.
