Jurors acquitted Eric Byrone Kibler, 44, of murder and most charges on March 23, five days after attorneys rested their cases before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Alan C. Lazerow.
Kibler was initially charged with 47 counts, including two counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, and multiple gun offenses in the death of 36-year-old Anthony Martin outside the Thunderguards motorcycle clubhouse on Aug. 18, 2024.
Charging documents allege the shooting occurred following a parking dispute near the building on the 1300 block of N. Spring Street. Jurors were told the confrontation quickly escalated into a gunfight. Seven others were left injured in the shooting. Kibler was convicted of just two of the 47 counts brought by the state—possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and having a handgun on his person.
Throughout the weeklong trial, prosecutors claimed surveillance footage captured Kibler delivering the fatal gunshot. However, defense attorney Tony Garcia highlighted a critical discrepancy in the state’s key evidence. Despite the prosecution’s claims, the footage appeared to show Martin being shot and falling to the ground before Kibler raised his own firearm.
Kibler now remains in custody pending sentencing on the two firearm convictions. His disposition hearing is scheduled for May 8 before Judge Lazerow.
