Judge Sets Trial Date for Man Accused of Shooting at Ex-Girlfriend

On March 22, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled the trial of a 36-year-old defendant accused of shooting an ex-girlfriend.

Louis Franklin is charged with first- and second-degree assault, firearm possession with a felony conviction, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun and a loaded handgun on his person and firing a gun in Baltimore City in connection to a Nov. 24, 2023, incident.

After rejecting a plea offer to first-degree assault and firearm possession with a felony conviction on his client’s behalf, defense attorney Robert Cohen and the prosecutor agreed to a trial date.

Judge Copeland scheduled Franklin’s two-day trial to begin on July 1 before Judge Charles H. Dorsey III.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, the victim told Baltimore Police Department (BPD) investigators she called Franklin to get her keys out of his car on the 1800 block of West Baltimore Street. Franklin didn’t answer the phone, so the victim called his wife. Franklin’s wife and daughter got into a verbal altercation with the victim and her mother. As the victim and her mother were leaving, Franklin allegedly shot at their car three times. No one was hurt and the car was not damaged.

The victim said that she, Franklin and his wife were in a polyamorous relationship for three years, which she had recently broken off.
