Judge Sets Trial Date for Attempted Murder Defendant

On Sept. 20, a 25-year-old attempted murder defendant appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn to set a trial date. 

Anthony Ward III is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, having a loaded handgun on his person, carrying a handgun on his person, discharging a weapon in Baltimore City and having a gun within 100 yards of the public in connection to a March 31 incident.

Ward was present with his stand-in defense attorney, Singleton Mathews, to set a trial date after rejecting the assistant state attorney’s plea offer on Sept. 19. 

After confirmation that the date would work from both attorneys, Judge Phinn scheduled a trial for Jan. 24, 2024. It is expected to last for three days. Judge Yvette M. Bryant will preside over the case.
