On Feb. 28, a Baltimore man accused of murder received a trial date before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn.
During Tuesday’s hearing, the assistant state’s attorney requested a trial date for May 10 for defendant Marcus Owens.
Judge Phinn explained that although May was booked, trials “fall through” all the time, and a judge may be available closer to the requested date.
“I can put it on needs coverage,” said Judge Phinn.
On Sep. 24, 2021, Owens was arrested and charged with the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Kevin Kelly on the 2500 block of Washington Boulevard.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Owens, 32, is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, and having a handgun on his person.
Judge Phinn scheduled the trial to start on May 10 and noted that she would email both defense attorney Sharon May and the assistant state’s attorney when a judge becomes available.
