Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Copeland pushes trial dates back in an attempted murder case.

Arthur McCaden, 37, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, firearm use, and handgun on person in connection to the fatal shooting of 36-year-old, Derrick Smith, and the nonfatal shootings of four other victims on the 1300 block of W. North Avenue, on Dec. 17, 2021.

During the Oct. 20 hearing, the prosecutor requested a trial postponement, informing Judge Copeland that he just undertook the case from another attorney.

Judge Copeland agreed to postpone the initial trial dates.

According to the court, McCaden was taken into custody on Feb. 23 after investigators in Montgomery Country, Pa. tracked him down after committing larceny at a convenience store.

The trial is set to begin on Feb. 27, 2023, and it is projected to end on March 3, 2023.
