A 25-year-old Baltimore woman accused of manslaughter rejected a plea of 10 years on May 26 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn

Jasmine Jones is charged with involuntary manslaughter, and first and second-degree assault in connection to an incident on Oct. 4, 2021.

During court proceedings, Judge Phinn listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of 10 years for involuntary manslaughter.

Jones and his defense attorney Karyn Meriwether, a stand-in for Maureen O’Leary, rejected the plea.

According to a news release from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) , officers were called to the 200 block of North Eutaw Street at approximately 2:57 p.m. for reports of shots being fired. They found 33-year-old Whitney Purnell suffering from a gunshot wound.

The medics took the victim to an area hospital, where she died 10 days later.

Jones’ trial is scheduled for Nov. 7. It is expected to last for three days.
