On April 3, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a retrial date for 40-year-old Tyrone Gerald White.
White is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, robbery, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, carrying a handgun on his person, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction and second-degree murder in connection with an incident on Oct. 2, 2017.
According to previous reporting, the incident occurred when Daniel Brinkley was shot six times on the 1300 block of Myrtle Avenue. A witness at the scene stated that White took items from the victim’s pockets before leaving the scene. Later on, black boots, a brown coat, a speed loader and ammunition were recovered from a trash can near White’s home, and the clothing found matched the witness’ description of White.
The original trial ended with White being convicted of first-degree murder, firearm use in a violent crime and firearm possession with a felony conviction. But the verdict was overturned on appeal.
The retrial set for April 3 was postponed due to a conflict in scheduling for witnesses and to allow the defense more time to look through newly accessible transcripts of White’s previous trial.
Judge Copeland set the trial date for Sept. 4. The trial is expected to last nine days. White will appear with his attorney in front of Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer.
