A 34-year-old homicide defendant was ruled incompetent to stand trial by Baltimore City Circut Court Judge Gale E. Rasin on Sept. 21.

Ronald Alston is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and robbery in relation to an incident on February 18, 2020.

Alston, who suffers a mental disorder and an intellectual disability, is currently being held at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, a maximum security psychiatric hospital in Howard County, MD.

In August, Judge Rasin gave an extension to the prosecution for the homicide defendant to be evaluated by the Maryland Department of Health.

During a mental health hearing on Wednesday, Judge Rasin ruled to commit Alston to the Maryland Council of Health.

Alston’s next court date is still pending.
