Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin praised a 37-year-old defendant’s commitment to treatment in mental health court on Dec. 4.
Jamar Cannon, 37, was involved in a non-fatal shooting incident on Oct. 25, 2019. On Aug. 18, 2021, he was initially charged with second-degree assault, carrying or wearing a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm and discharging a firearm within school.
The trial was transferred to mental health court on July 8, 2021. Cannon’s plea agreement required compliance with the terms of the mental health court, which included adherence to a drug treatment plan.
Since then, Cannon has reportedly demonstrated exceptional treatment appointment attendance.
“You seem definitely back on track,” Copeland said during the Dec. 4 status check.
“I’m feeling excited to go back to work,” Cannon said. After completing his probation, Cannon plans to return to his dishwashing position at a neighborhood lounge. He worked there for approximately ten years prior to his conviction.
Cannon plans to spend the winter holiday with his daughter. He will return to mental health court on Jan. 8, 2025 for a status check.
