The trial for homicide defendant Knowledge Hamilton was postponed Sept. 6 after news surfaced that the prosecution’s key witness was out of town due to a parent’s death.

Hamilton is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon with intent to injure, having a loaded handgun on his person and firearm possession with a felony conviction in connection to the Sept. 14, 2022, murder of 36-year-old Turrell Davis.

The prosecutor emphasized that the witness was key to the case, so Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Myshala E. Middleton moved this case to reception court for a new trial date.

During reception court, before Judge Melissa M. Phinn, Hamilton’s defense attorney, Roland S. Harris objected to the prosecution’s request for postponement. He said he sympathized with the witness and what they may be going through, but he and his client were ready to start the trial.

Judge Phinn still granted the postponement.

The prosecutor made it known that they are eyeing a January trial date. Because next year’s calendar was not yet open, Judge Phinn told both parties to return to reception court for scheduling. Judge Phinn continued the hearing to Oct. 4 to set a trial date.
