After a homicide defendant was found competent but not criminally responsible on Feb. 23, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin decided to postpone her official ruling for one week.
Deontae Johnson, 22, is charged with first-degree murder, and use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection to an incident on Dec. 9, 2020.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the prosecutor requested a one-week postponement because they had trouble contacting the victim’s mother. The prosecutor said the victim’s mother was unhappy about the plea offer. The prosecutor said he will also inform the victim’s mother of her rights to issue an impact statement.
Johnson’s defense attorney Sharon Bogins agreed with the postponement, so she can work with the victim’s mother to make her comfortable with the disposition.
Counsel agreed that Johnson was found competent but not criminally responsible by his doctor.
According to WMAR Baltimore, Johnson fatally stabbed a 40-year-old man on the 1900 block of E. Federal Street on Dec. 9, 2020.
Johnson’s next hearing is scheduled for March 2.
