Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a new pretrial hearing date for Juan Foster, 44, who was arguing with his defense attorney Derrick Hamlin

Foster is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, handgun on his person, handgun on vehicle, and discharging firearms for a shooting that occurred on May 11, 2022 on the 3800 block of Tivoly Avenue.

Foster expressed his frustration with Hamlin who is Foster’s third attorney and claimed that Hamlin has yet to visit him.  However, Hamlin insisted that Foster was not telling the truth, saying he has helped Foster to prepare for a trial. Hamlin asked to resign from the case. Foster said he a feels he is being set up for incarceration.

Judge Copeland granted Hamlin’s request, stating that Foster has been incarcerated for 30 months and, that should be sufficient time to find a lawyer.

Another reception court hearing was set for May 2 before Judge Copeland. Copeland told Foster that he will have to represent himself if he doesn’t have an attorney by that date.
