A judge adjusted a convicted non-fatal shooting defendant’s probation after he was found in violation of his conditions.
The 24-year-old defendant pleaded guilty in 2018 to having a handgun on his person and discharging firearms. He was sentenced to 10 years, suspending all but five years, and five years of probation.
According to the prosecution, the defendant had been released on probation for three months when he had picked up another firearm, violating his probation. In response to the violation, the prosecution offered 18 months of probation consecutive to his current sentence.
The defendant apologized for his actions.
Judge Jeannie J. Hong said there was not much that she could do but add the 18-month extension, which is consecutive to the current sentence.
