Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled a weeklong jury trial for a 34-year-old Shipley Hill homicide defendant on March 25.

Dominic Felder is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, firearm with a prior felony conviction, and having a handgun on his person in connection to the Oct. 2, 2024, fatal shooting of Tavin Cooper, 20.

The trial is set to begin July 7 before Judge Copeland despite defense attorney John E. Cox’s statement that his client does not wish to waive his February 2025 Hicks date. According to Maryland law, a Hicks date marks 180 days since a defendant’s initial appearance in court, denoting a defendant’s right to speedy trial.

Baltimore Witness previously reported that Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the 2500 block of McHenry Street following multiple ShotSpotter alerts. Upon arrival, they located Cooper suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and transported him to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
