Judge Denies Release for Alleged Attempted Murderer

Alleged murderer Lamont Dudley was denied bail on Sept. 22 at the Baltimore City Circuit Court.

According to WMAR Baltimore, Lamont Dudley was arrested for a shooting that occurred on Jan. 17 on the 1000 block of South Carey Street.

On July 14, the prosecution offered Dudley a plea of life, suspending all but 25 years, for attempted first-degree murder, and five years for firearm use in a violent crime, to run concurrently. However, defense attorney Isabel Lipman said her client was still considering the offer.

Later that month, Lipman said she was not prepared to set the trial date yet, having just received discovery from the prosecution.

On Wednesday, Lipman waived Dudley’s presence during the bail review.

Lipman said that discovery showed no evidence linking the defendant to the shooting. The defense also said that, in the victim’s first statement, the victim shared that they did not see the shooter because the shooter was wearing a mask.

During a police interview, the victim changed his testimony, saying he was able to identify Dudley as the shooter.

Lipman said the victim likely wanted to help police close this case.

A prosecutor, who was not assigned the case, said the defendant should not be released.

Judge Cynthia H. Jones denied the motion for his release.
