A man charged with 19 criminal counts was denied bail Sept. 27.

Cody Boothe, 26, is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, assault in the first and second-degree, having a handgun on his person, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, reckless endangerment, firearm use by a felon during a violent crime and discharging a firearm.

According to Brandon Mead, Boothe’s defense counsel, Boothe was not the assailant, but the victim.

Mead said Boothe was shot during the incident and is still recovering from his injuries. Mead requested that Boothe be put on home detention with strict conditions to only be allowed to go to medical appointments.

However, the prosecutor told a different story. The prosecutor said that, shortly after 5p.m., Boothe entered the block and approached two individuals.

A shootout commenced, and a witness told police that Boothe was standing over one the individuals pointing a gun. The prosecutor said Boothe appeared as if he was going to shoot the individual again.

In addition, Boothe has three prior convictions, one in 2019 for possession and two firearm convictions in 2015.

The defendant is scheduled for an arraignment on Oct. 12. The defendant also has a hearing scheduled at the District Court for Baltimore City on Oct. 5.
