A 34-year-old Baltimore man will remain held without bail for his alleged involvement in a shootout in September 2020.
Dujuan Bennett was originally charged with first-degree murder and firearm use during a felony violent crime; however, defense attorney Roland Harris informed the court on April 5 that those charges have since been dropped after the prosecution determined the defendant was not the initial shooter.
Bennett still faces charges of firearm possession with a felony conviction and having a handgun on his person for exchanging gunfire during the incident on Sept. 14, 2020.
During Tuesday’s bail review, Harris said surveillance footage showed the suspect riding a three-wheeler and firing a gun at Bennett and another person, striking a bystander.
Although the defendant wasn’t the initial aggressor, the prosecution said, he did exchange fire in the middle of the street at night. Bennett was arrested less than a month after the shooting for allegedly selling narcotics and possessing a firearm.
Judge Jeannie J. Hong agreed to deny Bennett’s bail.
The defendant is currently scheduled for trial on July 21.
