Attempted murder defendant Deon Hudson appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on Feb. 26 to reschedule his trial.

Hudson, 29, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person and discharging a firearm within Baltimore City in connection to a May 28, 2023, incident on the 200 block of South Monroe Street.

The stand-in prosecutor also requested a postponement because the assigned prosecutor was in trial. She had five other trials scheduled for the morning of Feb. 26, causing four to be postponed, including Hudson’s.

Hudson’s attorney Matthew Connell claimed the assistant state’s attorney didn’t provide witness evidence until 17 days before trial, not giving him enough time to prepare. He said he would file a  motion to compel.

Hudson will return to court on Thursday, Feb. 29 before Judge Copeland to schedule a new date for his trial.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to a call regarding a shooting on the 1800 block of Dover Street. The victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper left leg and back and was immediately transported to Shock Trauma.

An anonymous witness identified Hudson as the shooter.
