January Stoll Street Homicide Defendant Rejects Plea, Awaits November Trial

On Aug. 21, a 38-year-old defendant appeared in reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn to reject a plea offer from the prosecutor assigned to the case and subsequently schedule his jury trial.

Tyyea Lamont Gee, represented by stand-in attorney Lynn Peace, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime and firearm possession with a felony conviction in connection to the Jan. 13 killing of 37-year-old Ronnie Gibson on the 800 block of Stoll Street.

For first-degree murder, the plea agreement offered a life sentence, suspending all but 60 years, with five years of supervised probation. For firearm use in a felony violent crime, the offer was a concurrent 20 year sentence, the first five years without the possibility of parole.

Judge Phinn then scheduled Gee’s trial to begin before Judge Paul E. Alpert on Nov. 13. The trial is expected to last three days.

According to court documents, Gee’s girlfriend’s dog had gotten loose and was fighting another dog, blocking the roadway on the 900 block of Gretna Court, which abuts the rear of Gee’s apartment on the 900 block of Stoll Street. Gee’s girlfriend engaged in a verbal dispute with a driver who was waiting for the road to clear.

The driver drove away, but then returned to the backyard of the apartment, where Gibson got out and began to argue with Gee’s girlfriend. Gee allegedly pointed a gun at Gibson, who ran up to the 800 block of Stoll Street, where he was shot and killed out of the view of a nearby surveillance camera.

Gee was initially identified by facial recognition technology, but eyewitnesses later identified him as well. Witnesses also told police that Gee did not act alone, but the second suspect has not yet been identified or charged.
