Increase in Homicides Shows Unstable Trend

Baltimore saw increases in homicides and non-fatal shootings from January to February, according to Baltimore Witness data. 

Data shows there were approximately 11 homicide incidents reported in February, an approximate 18 percent increase from the nine homicide incidents reported in January.

Homicides decreased by approximately eight percent from the 12 homicides reported in December 2024, demonstrating an unstable trend for two consecutive months.

On Feb. 15, Francisco Cuffey, 33, was shot and killed on the 6100 block of Plantview Way. Sae’Quan Newton, 28, was shot and killed on Feb. 23 on the 3600 block of Potee Street.

On Feb. 20, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) also recently announced the arrest of Norman Waker, 65, who was suspected of fatally shooting Clyde Barnes, 79. The incident occurred the same day at the Pleasant View Gardens senior living apartments located on the 100 block of North Central Avenue. 

Non-fatal shootings increased from 11 shootings in January to 12 in February. The number of non-fatal shooting victims decreased by 20 percent, dropping from 15 in January to 12 in February.

On Feb. 17, officers were dispatched to an area hospital in reference to an incident that occurred on the 4800 block of Curtis Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a 30-year-old male suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound to the leg.

There were 12 reported non-fatal shooting incidents in February, which remained consistent with the amount reported in December 2024.
