On Dec. 8, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a 21-year-old murder defendant’s trial.

Kerin Alvarez is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, possession of a handgun as a minor and having a handgun on his person for the April 3 murder of 21-year-old Edgar Bonilla

The prosecution had no plea offer to extend to Alvarez, so counsel proceeded to pick a trial date. Defense attorney James Sweeting III and the prosecutor agreed to try the five-day case starting on June 17, 2024.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to the 400 block of Imla Street for reports of a shooting, where they found Bonilla lying on a porch, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A witness told police that Bonilla was shot after walking across a nearby 7-11’s parking lot and identified Alvarez as the suspect.
