Baltimore saw a decrease in homicides, but the amount of non-fatal shootings remained the same from December to January, according to Baltimore Witness data.
Data shows there were approximately 9 homicide incidents reported in January, a 25 percent decrease from the 12 homicide incidents reported in December.
Homicides decreased by approximately 36 percent from the 14 homicides reported in November, demonstrating a decreasing trend for two consecutive months.
One perpetrator was taken into custody on Jan. 20 for the murder of Brian Reed on Jan. 18 on the 5600 block of Groveland Avenue.
Baltimore Police Department (BPD) also recently announced the arrest of a 15-year-old who allegedly killed 38-year-old security guard, Jamal Davis. The incident occurred at a McDonald’s restaurant on Jan. 12 on the 4400 Block of Reistertown Road.
The amount of non-fatal shootings remained the same with 11 non-fatal shooting incidents in both December and January. The number of non-fatal shooting victims decreased by 25 percent from 15 in December to 12 in January. On Jan. 28, an incident occurred on the 2700 block of Brandon Avenue. A 32-year-old male was transported to an area hospital, he is allegedly a victim of a walk-in shooting. The man suffered from a non-fatal gunshot wound. BPD announced an investigation into this incident.
The amount of non-fatal shooting incidents was still substantially lower than November, where 35 non-fatal shooting incidents occurred, a 71 percent decrease.
