The trial of homicide defendant Jeramey Barron was set to go to trial on July 11 but pushed to next year after the case switched prosecutors last week.
Barron, 23, is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing 28-year-old James Brown on Sept. 5, 2020. The defendant last appeared in Baltimore City Circuit Court in December 2021, when he rejected a plea of life for Brown’s murder.
Instead of proceeding with his trial on Monday, Barron and defense attorney Brandon Patterson returned before Judge Melissa M. Phinn in reception court. The prosecutor said she not prepared to proceed to trial after recently taking over the case last week.
Barron is now scheduled for a four-day trial on Jan. 9, 2023.
