The number of homicides in Baltimore City so far this year continues to exceed the homicide count from this time last year, increasing from 134 homicides as of May 31, 2021, to 137 homicides as of May 31, 2022.
Within the first two weeks of 2022, Baltimore Witness reported 12 homicides—an increase of approximately 71 percent over the reported seven homicides that had occurred within the same timeframe in 2021.
The 2022 homicide count continued to tower over last year’s count by March 1 with 59 homicides. This was yet another substantial leap compared to the 42 homicides reported in the same timeframe in 2021.
