On Sept. 26, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a homicide defendant’s retrial for April 2023.
Amit Kumar, 43, was found guilty of first-degree murder and using a deadly weapon with intent to injure on Nov. 8, 2019.
According to the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office, officers were called to the 6700 block of Holabird Avenue on Jan. 11, 2019, where Kumar stabbed his wife, Ankita Verma, to death in their apartment. The victim suffered 55 stab and cut wounds.
Kumar’s retrial is scheduled for April 3, 2023. It is expected to last four days.
