Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a trial date for a 46-year-old homicide defendant on May 1.

Levar Cooper is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in his vehicle on a public road and possessing a firearm with a felony conviction in correlation with an incident on May 10, 2021.

As previously reported, Cooper was tried for the murder of Larry Alvin Randall, Jr. in November 2023, but the case ended in a mistrial.

Judge Copeland set the new trial date for Sept. 9, and it is expected to last five days. Cooper is set to appear with his attorney Michael Tomko.

According to court documents, a Baltimore Police Department  officer responded to the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard following a shooting incident and found Randall suffering from multiple gunshot wounds that proved fatal.

Cooper was reportedly identified in video footage by witnesses during police interviews. The defendant was allegedly seen arriving in a 2015 black Mercedes before getting out of the car with a semi-automatic weapon and shooting the victim.
