A six-year-old murder case was brought before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gregory Sampson on July 20 to discuss a motion to modify the sentence postponement requested by the prosecutor.

Darron Brown Jr. was convicted of first-degree murder in August 2017.

Brown represented himself to request a motion to modify his sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder.

However, the prosecutor asked for a motion to postpone the hearing due to issues with the docket.

The prosecution said the court docket only had a motion to modify Brown’s violation of probation sentence, not his request to modify the murder sentence. Therefore, the prosecution needs more time to contact the family and be more prepared for the hearing.

Brown had no objections to the request to postpone.

According to Fox Baltimore, around 12:55 a.m. on July 5, 2016, in the area of Laurens Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, officers found 28-year-old Travis Powell and a second, unidentified, victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

Powell succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.

Police later released surveillance video of the suspect with a plea to the public for tips on his identity.

The hearing is now scheduled for Sept.15
