On July 26, a 21-year-old homicide defendant rejected a plea offer in reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
Darius Daye, was initially charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime in connection to an incident on Jan. 19. Daye was represented by Chris Purpura.
The prosecution’s plea deal for Daye was to amend the count of first-degree murder to second-degree murder. For both charges of firearm use in a felony violent crime and two counts of second-degree murder, they offered Daye 80 years, suspending all but 30 years, with five years of supervised probation. Purpura rejected the offer on Daye’s behalf.
Daye’s five-day trial is scheduled to start on Oct. 23 before Judge Althea M. Handy.
