A 32-year-old homicide defendant was not called during mental health court on April 20 despite being scheduled to appear before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin

Kenard Kuniken is charged with first-degree murder, and use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection to an incident on Feb. 10, 2020.

Kuniken has been committed to the Maryland Department of Health while awaiting trial for the fatal stabbing of his mother, Tracey Phelps.

According to CBS Baltimore, on Feb. 10, 2020, officers were called to the 6400 block of Walther Avenue around 1 p.m. for a fatal stabbing. They found Phelps with multiple stab wounds to her body.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kuniken was previously found incompetent to stand trial. He was also represented by defense attorney Ana Hernandez.

According to Maryland’s Judiciary website, the defendant does not have any upcoming appearances.
