A 29-year-old homicide defendant opted to take a plea agreement on March 8 after counsel completed jury selection.
The case of Bernard Davenport appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Erik Atas on Wednesday when the prosecution and defense attorney Brandon Mead were ready to proceed to trial for one count of first-degree murder and three weapons charges. However, the defendant agreed to plead guilty to the murder charge and firearm use in a felony violent crime before the trial commenced.
Judge Atas ordered a pre-sentence investigation to determine whether Davenport is a good candidate for probation and scheduled the defendant’s sentencing for June 9.
The homicide occurred on Oct. 1, 2020, on the 800 block of N. Franklintown Road where Baltimore Police found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head, CBS Baltimore reported. The victim died from his injuries the following day.
